UK-RUSSIA Year of Music / 2019

In January 2020, as part of the UK Russia year of music, The Mavron Quartet will undertake a 4-day collaboration with Russian musicians in St Petersburg involving a programme of research, performances and cultural exchange between Welsh and Russian artists.

The quartet is collaborating on a new work for string quartet composed for them by contemporary Russian composer, Mikhail Sobolev. The new piece will be work shopped by both artists in St Petersburg resulting in a unique fusion of Russian and Welsh Culture.

Whilst in St Petersburg The Mavron Quartet will receive coaching from some of St Petersburg’s leading chamber musicians on traditional Russian string quartet repertoire in preparation for their upcoming performances in the UK. The quartet will also perform a collaborative recital with violist of The Nevsky String Quartet – Vladimir Bistritsky at the Rachmaninov School of the Arts in St Petersburg.

This project is kindly supported by British Council and Arts Council of Wales.
